About us News Together We Can funds awarded to seven projects for children and young people in Haringey Thanks to our kind donors and support from the Childhood Trust and LHC Community Benefit Fund, we are delighted to announce that Haringey Giving are funding the following seven projects through our Together We Can grants programme. Projects will support children and young people who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 in Haringey. Groundswell Arts £5,000 To offer a series of arts-based creative play labs for 40 children aged 0–3-years old in three Haringey Children’s Centres. These children will have experienced sustained periods of time in lockdowns, and many will not have accessed early years activities in groups. The labs will be immersive multi-sensory environments using, music, sound, light, projection, and sensory play to allow children and families to explore alongside artist practitioners in environments that support movement music making, language, creative play, and expression to emerge. Step by Step £5,000 To introduce Weekly Wonders as part of their Sunday Club for 43 children and young people aged 3 – 19 years with physical, emotional and learning disabilities. Through Weekly Wonders, children and young people will take part in weekly recreational trips and activities, and replenish skills lost over lockdown. Sister System £5,000 To deliver a peer-led empowerment project for 126 girls and young women aged 13-24 who are in or transitioning from the Care system. ‘Sister System’s Got Talent’ will provide this community with an opportunity to come together to co-curate a variety show. Led by recently graduated Big Sisters, girls will develop skills and share their COVID-19 experiences through a series of podcasts, photography, writing, creative and performing arts workshops in the run up to the show. HR Sports Academy £5,050 Led by young people from HR Sports Academy, this project will support 80 children and young people in Years 7 and 8 who have found the transition to secondary school difficult due to the disruption they have experienced in their education and the amount of isolation they have faced. During the holiday periods, they will work closely with children from this age-group, to improve their mental health and well-being, through a wide range of workshops, sports activities, day trips and talking circles. Haringey Basketball For All £5,211 To provide up to 250 young people aged 14 -25 yrs with free, twice weekly access to basketball training, basketball coaching qualifications and mentoring, ‘See it & be it’ career talks and practical wellbeing sessions. The project seeks to address some of the inequalities experienced by their young players and exacerbated by the pandemic including dips in physical health, worsened mental health and rising obesity. Dalmar Heritage and Family Development £4,810 To provide weekly football sessions for 20 children and young people aged 7-13 from the Somali community. During the sessions, informal mentoring will also take place and information about health and opportunities to exercise provided to the young people and their families. The project seeks to address poor health and diet and lack of confidence brought on by the pandemic, through providing a safe space for young people to meet, exercise and take part in something they enjoy. The London Reading Centre £1,530 To provide group therapy sessions for 20 children (ages 8-12) to help them manage the loneliness they have experienced during this difficult period. The sessions aim to support children to manage symptoms of anxiety and low mood as well as also serving as a source of support for children dealing with grief, bullying, anxiety, depression and other mental health issues.
