On Giving Tuesday, 29 November, we brought together leading companies, representatives from the local council and philanthropists to launch Haringey Giving Week 2022. Our annual campaign to raise funds in order to improve the lives and opportunities of people in Haringey, and tackle the root causes of inequality, disadvantage and low income in our community by:

  • Opening up opportunities for young people
  • Improving wellbeing and helping people to thrive
  • Building confidence and skills for better jobs and successful enterprises.

The week, 29 November - 6 December, provides an opportunity for people and businesses to help provide investment and support into local grassroots organisations who are tackling these complex issues.

Helen Rayfield, Chair of Haringey Giving said:

‘The cost-of-living crisis is threatening the community we serve, with existing inequalities becoming further entrenched. Haringey Giving Week is seeking to address these inequalities and deprivation in the borough so the people of Haringey can thrive and drive social change for the better. We are incredibly grateful to all those who have supported this critical campaign so far.

Your support will help local people unlock their potential and overcome challenges in their lives by opening up opportunities for young people, improving wellbeing and helping people to thrive and building confidence and skills for better jobs and successful enterprises.’

The London Borough of Haringey is a diverse and vibrant place, with many community organisations, businesses and talented local people delivering valuable community action. Despite this, the need in the borough though remains high and 35% of residents in Haringey are living in poverty, which worse compared to all London boroughs (27%). In addition, 26.1% of borough residents’ jobs are low pay compared to the London average of 20.2% (Trust for London, London’s Poverty Profile). We are working to ensure that these issues do not hinder our communities’ ability to take action on causes that matter to them, so they can live happier, healthier and fulfilled lives.

Marie Henry from Breadline London, a beneficiary organization funded by Haringey giving said:

‘The "Changing Lives" fund helped us to do exactly that. We supported a number of young people to change and improve their lives from devices for school / college, driving lessons to plumbing to which helped one of our young people to secure a job in a very famous department store in central London.’

We’d like to say a special thank you to our match funding partners, Woodley Cole and Hollis, thanks to their support for every £1 raised we have been able to match public donations up to £3,000.

Steve Coles, Woodley Coles (a funding partner for the campaign) said:

‘We are delighted to give something back to community projects and supporting those facing tough challenges to overcome them’… ‘In 2021 we pledged a donation to Haringey Giving and made 50% of this pledge to a project supporting those most affected by the pandemic. We have since been working with the wonderful Haringey Giving team to ensure the remaining 50% is used to its optimum and there is none better than being a match funded donor in Haringey Giving Week 2022.’

Ian McKenna, Director at real estate consultancy Hollis said:

‘Hollis is proud to support Haringey Giving as a match funder. Haringey Giving works with the local community and its funding partners to ensure support gets to where it is needed most to achieve maximum impact. Whether that’s support for children and young people, mental health or skills and enterprise development. Haringey Giving is uniquely placed within Haringey to support communities at a grassroots level to lead on addressing the most pressing local issues. Hollis is #HereforHaringey.’

Thanks to our generous supporters and donors we have raised over £8,000 to date – to support local people and community organisations take action on issues that matter to them. We have been delighted by the support and generosity from our community to help support others while we collectively feel the effects of the current cost-of-living crisis. Unfortunately, for many this is just the beginning, and many are having to make extremely difficult choices. This is why we are asking those who can to continue supporting the campaign. Together, we can ensure the local community is able to become more resilient and help more people who need our support.
