Thanks to our kind donors, Haringey Giving are delighted to have been able to fund three local community projects which provide vital targeted support for Afghan refugees who have arrived in Haringey. These projects provide support around language tuition, mental health and wellbeing, and micro-grants to enable refugees to overcome challenges:

The funded projects include

Breadline London £1,150  to provide micro-grants to individuals and families who are Afghan refugees in order to enable them to overcome challenges and begin to rebuild their lives. The project will provide other support through Breadline London and appropriate referrals to local services.

Mind In Haringey £4,952 to support Afghan families in getting the support that they need to assist them in settling into our community and managing any mental health issues that have come about through their traumatic experience of leading their home land. Mind in Haringey will provide a triage and assessment service to assess any mental health difficulties they maybe experiencing, providing a warm handover to support in the community, to in house support  services and/or referrals into appropriate secondary or specialist mental health services in Haringey.

Muswell Hill Methodist Church £3,120 to offer a package of English to speakers of other languages (ESOL) support that will cover the tutor’s fees, room hire, both for the sessions and any childcare requirements to Afghan and other refugees who are unable to access this support.
